City EMS problem solved

Trying to understand this forum, is getting more difficult, with every comment made. Why are others trying to stir the pot when it is not needed? For those who have nothing better to do then cause conflict, I feel sorry for you. Maybe you all need another hobby.

To the Eudora Fire Department & Eudora Township Fire Department.

Definition : 1: a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service: as a: one who enters into military service voluntarily b (1): one who renders a service or takes part in a transaction while having no legal concern or interest.

A volunteer is not self serving. Both sides need to sit down, discuss their differences and work together for this community.

There are alot of people that count on you.

  3. bettercommunity4all (anonymous) says…

Why is it that we don't have an extension on the LDCFD in Eudora similar to what Baldwin has? I am assuming that since Baldwin does have a LDCFD department that it is a full time paid department (again that is just an assumption) but to me it would make more since for Eudora to have a full time paid fire department or at least a full time paid EMS department with real ambulances that can respond to medical calls rather than having to wait 10-15 minutes for LDCFD to arrive from Lawrence.

Can someone please explain to me why the 2 Eudora Township Fire Fighters currently on EMS are being let go Saturday by the "NEW Eudora Community EMS" overseen by Eudora City Fire Chief Randy Ates? I am hoping they are not being let go simply because they are Eudora Township Fire Fighters, I think their might be some legal issues with that.

Per the July 12 article "County accepts Community EMS deal"
""The only thing that's really going to happen is that we'll be switching dispatching over," Eudora City Fire Chief Randy Ates said."

I believe this merger was approved by the Mayor and the current city counsel based off of what was in the best interest for the community. The EMS merger, I don't have an issue with that, whatever is best for the community. I do have an issue with getting rid of the current experience & job knowledge of the individuals already serving on EMS.

Dustin McAfee has been a First Responder for the Eudora Community for the last 5 years.
Doug Rhodes has been a First Responder for the Eudora Community for the last 3 years, with many years law enforcement before that.

Eudora Township members had an idea this would happen, and you wonder why they didn't want to participate in the merger.

Per the comments made in the Eudora Newspaper July 5th article "City Council accepts EMS agreement"
"McAfee said he had concerns about whether all township members would be accepted into the Eudora Community EMS."

  5. trying_to_understand (anonymous) says…

I to find it hard to believe that two of the most valuable volunteers' on the old EMS are being let go, for what, other then political reasons, not based on patient care. I have heard from many voices that states how wonderful it was to have those volunteers there when it was needed... According to the numbers they ran, marjority of the calls within the city/township area last year, they ran at least 80-90% of the calls. Did anyone have a complaint against them for lack of patient care? Did anyone feel they were mistreated when they arrived on scene to help take care of you? Those are questions that others should be asking...

  6. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

I am not aware of any issues or patient complaints with either. I have spoken very highly of Doug & Dustin in the past as they have responded to 3 out of the 4 EMS calls that I have had at my house over the last 5 years. That post is listed under "Fire and Medical and other politics" user name Eudora_Mom (can never remember that password).

I say this stinks and we the community should have a say in this issue, as it will be our family members that suffer. I would think that petition or a chat with the city council would be in order.

  7. trying_to_understand (anonymous) says…

Honestly, I have came to learn that the higher-powered people, don't give a care what the community thinks or feels..... it is all politics. Nothing more then that.

  8. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

Too bad things have to be that way. We have people ready, willing and able to serve this community, people who have given up their life for this community for the last 5 years. Doug & Dustin won't get the opportunity to continue to do what they love simply because of politics.

Is it going to take the loss of one of our upstanding Eudora citizen's to learn from our mistakes? You don't look a gift horse in the mouth. These responders already have the experience, we paid for them to get that training.

Doug & Dustin, love you guys and thank you for what you have contributed to this community.

  9. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

To Fed up bs I respect your throughts and opinions, but calling people names never resolves any problems. I am willing to start a petition to save Doug & Dustin's position if you would be interested. The power of the people far outweights name calling.

  10. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

im more than willing to join that list neighbor!

  11. trying_to_understand (anonymous) says…

Barnhardt is correct on the name calling, nothing gets resolved by hitting below the belt, be the better person....... Starting a petition is a start, just name the time and place and I'll be there!!!!! Hope to see others as well.....

  12. arrivingfromlawrence (anonymous) says…

If I say that I arrive from Lawrence, you should know how I arrive. The new ECEMS will be crippled without Doug and Dustin. Any time that I need to go to Eudora and I hear either one of their voices on the radio, I know that what ever triage they give will be correct. I know that their dedication to patient care goes above and beyond any other member of that service. I am not saying that the other members are not trained I am saying that maybe they are not as dedicated. I understand that the new service is keeping a couple of members that are a little unclear when it comes to patient care. I hope that word of this spreads quickly. The petition is a good thing. I know people here in town raise cane when thing are not right. I say, contact your Mayor. Contact your council members. Do that petition door to door if you need to. Fight to get these two men back. They make my trip easier. Thanks.

  13. McAfee (anonymous) says…

My name is Michele McAfee, I am the wife of Dustin McAfee. I would have to say that the decision to keep Dustin and Doug from responding to the community will be a down fall. Dustin has dedicated himself body and soul to this community. Let me tell you all a little bit about Dustin: Since Dustin has recieved his license to help care for those who are in need and can't help themselves as became apart of our family. It is not just Dustin, me and the kids, it's now Dustin, me, the kids and EMS along with Fire. I am a volunteer on the township fire department and knows how hard it is to dedicate our selves to the community and balance full-time job and the kids.....it is one of the hardest task we have yet experienced. But love to do it. Dustin has shared the love of EMS with me. I have recently finished my EMT-B classes and awaiting on my license to help serve the community. Now try juggling volunteering on two emergency departments and full-time job and a family, I have asked myself "How am I to have a life of our own with a schedule that we have?" simple "It is our lifes and families!!" Not sure if anyone remembers but within the first year that Dustin was responding, HE was voted most valuable-reliable responder of the year. Since then, Dustin responds to almost every call he can to help the community, not for the reimbursment fee for responding, for that is passion and dedication. Dustin and Doug should be able to have a fighting chance to help continue serving this community. There is alot you all could learn from Dustin, for he is always willing to teach/help assist anyone willing and able to help better serve our community....

  14. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

Thank you ArrivingfromLawrence. You post tells the whole story, their dedication to the patient. Michele I just contacted Eudora City Hall about filing a petition, they informed me that I would have to file it with Douglas County. The Eudora City Fire Chief can release them from duty, but to get them back we have to fight Douglas County?

  15. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

You should avoid the rumors that you hear. Per the newspaper that fire was started by fireworks, don't you read the paper. The township firechief is not one of the 2 guys that lost their jobs with EMS.

  16. McAfee (anonymous) says…

Bubbles31: If you would have read the above discussion, the two men are apart of the township fire department, but neither are the chief. That is not the issues at this time. Dustin, Doug and I, along with other fire fighters did respond to the fire that night, regardless of any issue.... For those who are wanting to voice there concerns about Dustin & Doug being let go from the EMS Service, please voice them to Bill Whitten at whitten@sunflower.com . Amy will be in touch with you this evening......

  17. neighboringfire07 (anonymous) says…

I personally think eudoras new chief is a fake.....all he is looking at is being in charge of more things so he can bring home a bigger check....im not a firefighter in eudora but i know lots of firefighters on Eudora City and Eudora Township... and i know dustin. from past experience dustin and doug have been there to my best friends rescue they where to the call within 3 minutes of it being called out and it to chief ates like 8 mins.... i support doug and dustin 100% and think this sh** is not need and ECEMS is losing two good ems guys cause what department they are on.....that is no fing reason for them being kicked off.....

  18. trying_to_understand (anonymous) says…

You know trying to hit below the belt on someones status of employment is not necessary. This is one reason why someone people stay out of discussion on this forum. The name calling, rumors, and wrongful accusations are not necessary, it just goes to show that those have nothing better to do, and make themselves feel better about themselves as a person.

  19. domovik (anonymous) says…

Just had to remove the comment becasue it didn't agree with the rest of you and hit a little clost to home didn't ya? This forum wanted to discuss Dustin and Doug so let's stick with those volunteers for the discussion. I did not state their EMT performance was poor. What I stated was that they had poor interpersonal skills and did not work well with other EMTs, thus causing conflict within the department. And not just Eudora's volunteer department either.

  20. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

theres no false accusations being made her, were all telling the truth of the matter on it, dustin and doug got screwed out of there positions as emts because of which dept , theyre on, if you could find me more info on the subject i might believe you, but as it stands, i will call this jerk, delete my comment if this really offends you by anymeans but its the straight truth, from personal experience in the matter he lied to three firefighter from the township, my being en ex member yes , lied and said he would do as much as he could to help us at the township! now how many times did he actually do this............how about none! how can somebody lie just so he can get on our good sides , then treat em like a piece of trash, to end this once again i will say listen to your community , alot of people i gurantee will step up and tell ya that they dont like ya! Things were fine until you showed up in this town!

  21. McAfee (anonymous) says…

Domovik: Like I stated in the above comment, I would really like to speak with you in the issues that you brought up. But like most people that have to hide behind screen names, throwing accusation, starting rumors and name calling (As trying to understand put) shows you have no guts. At least Dustin and Doug have stood up for what they believe in, the passion they have to provide the best possible care to the public.. Again, call if you want to further those issues.

  22. domovik (anonymous) says…

There has never been any name calling in my posts, rumor starting, or throwing of accusations. But of course I can't prove that now since you removed my post. The guts lies in those people who have stood up against Dustin and Doug to report the misconduct they have done in the past, while on duty, by breaking procedure and regulations. Again, I will restate, nothing negative was said about their performance as EMTs once they got on scene. And for the record, I am not nor have I ever been an EMT with Eudora like so many of you probably think I am.

  23. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

oneplusoneisthree, obivously your screen name says it all, wow i feel so stupid after now reading your post, seriously. those spoke of dustin and doug, have always followed procedures the right way, safer place, there the ones who have made this town a safer place! i have served on a fire dept with the both of them, they were always on top of there game and followed procedures, and never had misconduct, now you are bringing stuff up they do in there personal time , i really dont believe thats the publics business..employment..their nicknames..whatever it may be , this just sickens me that you all have your heads so far up his arkansas butt! also about the driving thing, i have yet to see them drive like idiots, find something else to throw at us , we have so many people that has both of their backs! i cant wait til we get this petition going! they'll have there jobs back no matter what it takes!

  24. eudorataxpayertoo (anonymous) says…

Not to start something new but, If someone was wrongly terminated from their position then THEY might have a gripe with the organization. "If I understand correctly from these posts" they were not chosen to be a part of a different organization. I don't know the full story and I think I like it better that way. In this situation what good does starting up a petition do? Is this because someone was not hired after putting in a application? Were they not chosen and that is the complaint?
That being said, each employer has the right to pick and choose their employees.(Right?) If the only reason was because they were on the Township then that would be wrong. But, there are other Township F/F on the new ECEMS, so that can't be it. Although that is what has been said on these posts. I have never seen a negative action from any of the neighboring departments. Including the Township while on a scene. That is not to say things don't go on. What goes on outside the scene is up to each individual. People see thing from different angles and interpret the things they see in their own ways. We all need to be accountable for our actions good or bad. This town and this forum have been overridden with false statements and slander for quite some time. (Mostly be people who hide behind a screen name.) Will anyone ever know the truth. The only true way to solve these issues is to set down and talk like adults. That being said after you have a discussion you can't go back and write lies or "half-truths" on this forum or go out and gossip with your friends. Raising a big stink and making threats of a "petition" don't really have a leg in this situation. If something is to be solved I think the professional approach might work better here. Don't we all wish to look as professional as we can while we serve the people we know and care about? Please feel free to send me a email if you wish to discuss this outside the forum. my3sons@sunflower.com If you choose to bash me please let my know so I might get a chance to talk to you afterwards or even before ;-}. Others that don't know anything about this situation read these posts so lets not give them a false presentation if we don't know the whole truth either!!!

Sorry this post is so long,
    Have a great week,

Hey everyone I would like to thank the community for the past 5 years I had a great experience with Eudora EMS and enjoyed giving the community 100% all the time. I ve worked hard to give the best patient care possible and I believe I did that. To those of you attacking me on this forum there are two things I can say to you, 1. look at the post from "arrivingfromlawrence" I believe that says it all. 2. If all you have to attack me with is driving and not patient care problems then enough is said there. But, to address Mr. Reazin you had three applicants to the new ems from Eudora Township Fire department so far one is pending and two have been turned down so I believe enough is said there. well people have a great time and thanks to all of you for your support.

    Dustin Mcafee. :)

  26. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

Thank you Doug & Dustin for all you have done for the community. Dustin thank you for looking at the neighbors arm last night.
As for Mr Reazin I will go back to my original post quoted Per the July 12 article "County accepts Community EMS deal"
""The only thing that's really going to happen is that we'll be switching dispatching over," Eudora City Fire Chief Randy Ates said."
And to think I voted for you when you ran for the City Council. For someone who wanted to serve this community in the City council, how dare you discourage any Eudora citizen for standing up to what they believe is right. Maybe your opinion would be different if you weren't a member of Eudora City Fire.
Finally seeing Mr Reazin for who he really is.
Look for the petition this week.

Dustin and Doug congrads on all the hard work.... ecems will be losing to great guys and lets just move on and leave the losers alone ( City Fire/ems)

  28. eudorataxpayertoo (anonymous) says…

First of all I don't believe I discouraged anyone from standing up for what is right. I apologize if I mislead anyone with my post. I just think there might be a better way of dealing with these concerns. I like the idea of a petition for situations with our government. We as citizens came together for Bobby Arnold when he was on the verge of termination from the city and that was the right thing to do. He was being let go from his job without cause and the determination was being made by the city council. However in this situation they were apparently never on this new organization so how would a petition help? This is an application process where a group (that I was not part of) reviewed applications and then made a decision based on information presented information that I am not privy to). It seems that deciding group may have information that this forum does not have. If this forum knows all information given and believes a bad decision was made there are probably several avenues but I was just saying a petition does not seem to be the best approach for this specific problem.

I think that an educated and informed discussion would be better here rather than the knee jerk fighting without knowing both sides.

Will the name calling ever stop? A blanket comment like "leave the losers alone ( City Fire/ems)" Wow, is this needed? Does it help validate the statement? These kind of comments draw away from the positive that is trying to be portrayed.

I have never steered from the fact that I would rather hear from both sides and educate myself before I rush to judge others.

    Have a great day,
    Tim Reazin

all there is left to say is drop it, are you one that makes choices in this town? i dont believe so , so leave it alone, leave his life alone! and stick to your own! all there is left to say since you have nothing to do with this is good riddance to you! find somebody else to attack!

  30. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

my words of advice to everybody that bashes them, as the title of this entry problem solved, its solved when we stop talkin sh*t on them, their great people and obiviously the people that bash on them , really dont know them well! i say let your problems with them be the past and forget about it! bi-gons be bi-gons and grow up and stop bashing on them, they obiviously care for this community more than any of you! i hate bashing on you all but none of you listen! just keep running off at the mouth about issues other than what really matters! your losing two people that dont care for issues that whats going on in their personal lives when the page comes out, their more worried about whats going on with that patient than who's gonna do this or say something wrong, i say leave them alone and grow up! thats all that can be said, issue solved! done no more, end this un-grown up BS! sorry i may be harsh but its BS that we all cant agree that they are the 2 care givers when the page comes out!

I would like to tell the citizens of Eudora and Eudora Township goodbye. Since the merger of EEMS has been finalized as of this past Sunday, I no longer will be responding to emergency medical calls. As of this time, I have not been accepted to the new Eudora Community Emergency Medical Services.

Other then standing up for what I believed in or standing up for improving care, I do not know why I was not accepted.

Some people say that I broke rules and regulations. I wish that this was true because then I would know why I was turned down to continue volunteering. My patient care record is impeccable and unblemished. I have been in the volunteer fire service for 15 years, and I have been in the volunteer medical service for two-and-a-half years. All of the medical service time has been served here in Eudora. I have worked with some great medical volunteers. Some of these volunteers have forgotten more then I ever will know. All of us in our own little world were family but not likely to be picked as family of the year.

We fought. We cussed. We cried. But when it came down to what was the most important, we cared.

I have lost a lot of sleep because of medical calls. I have had to shorten my vacations because of my dedication to the old EEMS. I have been ridiculed and watched like a hawk because of the old EEMS service. The scary part of it is, I am going to miss it.

In the time that I have spent with the old EEMS, I have had a person look into my eyes as he lay there dying from injuries he incurred in a car accident. I cried for hours. I also have had two different gentlemen who when they were being taken away in the ambulance, they had a pulse, which they did not have when I arrived on the scene of the 911 call. Once again, I cried for hours. But the tears were different in both cases.

This has been taken away from me. I am going to miss it.

I really hope that whose ever toes that it was that I stepped on, will forgive me. I would hope that you would stand back and look at what I have to offer to the new group. I would fight for the new group just as hard as I fought for my old group. I would be just as dedicated to the new group as I was my old group.

In closing, I want to thank the people who have come to me and have given me words of encouragement. I don't know 75 percent of you, but I guess you know me and that means a lot to me.

To my old group, always remember, BSI, scene safe. If any of you ever need me for any reason, even if it is for just a good argument, swing by my house. I will be there for you.

I hope I will be back soon. Good luck.

    Doug Rhoads

    Assistant director of the former

    Eudora Emergency Medical Services

  32. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

thanks doug for everything you have done for this community! ems and fire! youve been a great friend to me and i hope that you will be back soon! your a great asset to this community! you will be missed!

  33. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

To enoughalready why don't you post your name.

  34. barnhardt (anonymous) says…

Nor have I wasted the city and township fire departments nor the EMS departments time whinning about them not getting rehired. I haven't even begun. I am forever indebted to them for attending to my children when called upon.

As for public record and putting themselves in the public eye, what better way to pay for you mistakes then being a volunteer for your community. There is no amount of community service that the courts could impose on you that would exceed volunteering to save lives.

As for these 2 individuals, why hold them to higher standards then we hold paid public servants?

  35. voiceofsanity (anonymous) says…

Hopefully now those two were gone and a competent management has been put in place, the people who either resigned or never applied due to all of their drama will apply to be a part of ECEMS. The former EEMS lost many good volunteers due to their shenanigans. Good luck, Chief Ates and all the new ECEMS volunteers. This is a very exciting time for Eudora!

fed up, did you forget that this is a community forum? This is, what's going on in the community right now like it or not. If you don't like reading about it stay off the forum. I would bet that where ever you go in this town someone is talking about it good or bad. So deal with it.

  38. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

excuse me, you two are idiots, how far do you have your heads up his butt? so your saying our community was sh*t before he stepped in and changed it to be his way? you say community ive noticed about maybe 4 of you that seems to bash on the two guys that were involved in the let gos, ive lived in eudora for awhile it was a great place before he was around, so what so much better that hes here? was there a need for any of this? why change? and first and second off dont call me out on this forum, not good idea, i didnt call you out i just said leave it alone! feel free to talk to me but not to call me out! i just feel stupid after reading some of your posts, i cant help, they make no sense you have to have some kind of affilation with somebody on those 2 depts? thats the only way that i can see why you would side with him! after being a firefighter on one of the depts for almost 2 yrs, before the ates era began, the township and the city got along great, no problems with ems or anything, if you notice your tearing your community apart at the seems, no offense its just plain and simple! its tearing away at the township! there losing people because they feel betrayed, i mean i feel betrayed after being lied to in the face by this guy....who says this then turns his back on you? "im willing to do anything to help you guys" i have 3 witnesses for that, and then just goes back on his word and screws the township, he never thought to ask hey would you guys wanna work out some kind of plan in this so that we wouldnt lose any emts? it was i want a fulltime dept, this gives me the oppurtunity to get a new station , all of bs, plain and simple, come on people we live in a town of 6-7,000, do we need a full-time station, a ecems? what was wrong with just plain out eudora ems? and two depts getting together to arrive to one goal, serving the community? im sorry im gonna side with dustin and doug on this one , your really making things hard in this town chief!

  39. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

one more thing to enoughalready, i seriously also dont think somebodies past is your damn business, obivously im sure if it was you could have asked them and they would have told ya, not calling them out over a damn forum, i would really like to know who you are! calling people out of none of your damn business! feel free to call me out anytime now , im ready to go , id like to hear more of the stupidity coming out of your mouth!

  40. trying_to_understand (anonymous) says…

To all that post on this issue: could we all please let the past be the past and move on with our own lives. Let those two gentlemen have a life without anyone else bringing up the past. Those issues are not necessary. So, I'm asking all to please stop the arguing and fighting against one another and let them be. They have not posted any negative chat against anyone, nor have I heard of any negative talk from them. They have families outside this garbage talk and you doing nothing but interferring with that. Leave the trash talk to the politic, because god knows our own country needs the help not just Eudora... Best of luck to the those who volunteer on all services......

  41. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

  43. bubbles31 (anonymous) says…

Hey, what is up with all the removal of comments? Someone can't handle the truth? It makes perfect sense now why chris is so against Ates. Have you never been turned down at an interview before. Did you attack the other employers who didn't give you a job? Sounds like you need to grow up.

  44. eudorataxpayertoo (anonymous) says…

Is it possible to stop? Now more dirty laundry is out there. Someone is speaking for both departments, without permission. This is still hearsay and only hurts the image of several volunteers. To spout information without your name either shows you are talking behind some ones back, that has trusted you with the info or you are very close to both sides. Please stop. This still does nothing to help with education on the issue and gives the outsiders the wrong idea. We all volunteer to help community not to gossip about it.

    Thanks for your time,

Here is one more piece of info for all of you that have decided to dog on Dustin. Fourth of July night it was Dustin whom over rid what the township chief was wanting to do and told people to continue to respond because we are here to help the community and not to let spats get in the way of doing your job when the pager goes off which is something most of you would not have the guts or the balls to you and I want to say thank you to Dustin for putting the community first.

  46. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Second of all one of you on here your husband is a cop and you sit here and gripe about how Dustin drives but yet your husband speeds around in his police cruiser all the time kind of setting a double standard dont you think. I have rode with Dustin and I have also heard local and douglas county officers chew him cause he would not go more than ten miles an hour over the speed limit and they would have to pass him.

  47. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Third one of you works in the city hall office and your spouse is on the current ECEMS and works for the city and is also on the city fire but yet if you see Dustin you are all kinds of nice to him. Normal attitude for alot of persons here in Eudora.

  48. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Also most of you that were on the old EMS dont like Doug and Dustin because if you did something wrong they would call you out on it and instead of considering that it was constructive criticism you were so about yourself that you could not take it so you all tried to get them kicked off. That does include the former EEMS director that has been on here who could not take care of telling fellow friends on the department that instead of going to a call and standing around do something so they quit.

  49. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Oh yeah one more thing Reazin I hope to god you are not really going to continue trying to be a medical responder it is not your calling that is for sure. Also why dont you actually put your name in for a position and debate with the other candidates instead of trying to be a write in candidate and flappin your gums on here.

  50. blk30 (anonymous) says…

I know Dustin and Doug and I have to say from what I hear from people around town ECEMS is loosing 2 very good people. Why would you do something like that??? Wouldn't you want to have two very good people on your staff serving the community?? That are experienced with the way things are done and how everything works?? Why does everything always have to be about politcs. I am leaving Lawrence because it is all politcs. I thought that Eudora was better than that. I quess I was wrong.

  51. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

never said you were specifically but it must of hit close to home sorry

  52. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

But if you honestly knew what the background of alot of firefighters and police officers were and what they had done in the past you would be quite surprised so dont judge somebody based on their past history thats why it is called past history.

  53. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

hey enoughalready might wanna check into that a lil more, i know for a fact that most are certified unless they were grandfathered in! wanna make it more obivous that i was a "probationary firefighter" i knew my place you dont have to say it anymore, at least i was doing something to help my community then ruin it! damn truth hurts , theres plenty of guys still not certified! damn it must hurt still being friends with plenty of township firefighters! get a life and get over it! i know your a township member, so i mean seriously i know who you are! im not dumb! obivously you need to think about some things! you cant hide it anymore so put your name out!

  54. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

my question is twinangels whos side are you on? you bash me and then stick up for me? i know who you are ,ive never had a problem with you! seriously you all can call me out and say what you have to say, ask the truth from me im not afraid to tell, im old enough that i dont have to lie about things! truth is ones who bash on me, and criticize me over things , i probally never liked you, and truth is probally never will! im sorry! so to end all of your immature calling me out, grow up, i did! im done posting on here!

  55. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

and for the record I only decided to continue on ECEMS because i do care but I will say this the new ideas are not good ones right now, our response is delayed leaving a vehicle at the station, Saturday night we left with all our people and left the first aid station un manned and had a person needing attention. Also most of the medics we work with are not happy with the decision made to not continue having Doug and Dustin on here and that feeling is felt when they arrive now. We will all have some very big shoes to fill with them two gone and so far we have not done that we are way to inexperienced right now for that to happen.

  56. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

I would also agree that Doug nor Dustin have posted anything negetive, I seen Dustin alot this weekend and he always smiled and shook peoples hands and never acted negetively towards anyone. Heck he even kept quiet when he was seeing people with heat exhaustion being treated with ice packs directly to the skin which is a bad thing for two reasons but I was surprised he did not say anything out loud but he did say something to me about but it was subtle.

  57. eudorataxpayertoo (anonymous) says…

factsoflife- If you feel I don't have what it takes to respond why would you not speak to me in person and explain to me your rationale. I am trying to learn and I think one has to start somewhere. If there is an issue with me then please let me know what it is (I would prefer a face to face discussion rather than using this forum). This kind of calling out is a cancer to a department and does more harm than good. We are expected to be there for each other and watch each others back when needed. You could email me if you wish to discuss this outside the forum or talk to me at a meeting. If we have issues that effects our response then we should all talk about it at a meeting so we are on the same page. (Why bring up city council? Just taking a jab?) Where is you name?

  58. fed_up_bs (anonymous) says…

wow enoughalready im happy to see your agreeing! i dont know why we have such a huge problem with medical coverage, i thought the old ems was great, it got things done and never seen anything wrong! but i guess its all up in the air now!

  59. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

There were firefighters there but not trained in medical procedures and evidently in first aid I believe a township firefighter attended to the person. And the reason we are now going to be in a problem with ems now is because instead of putting patience first those who are still on made the mistake of putting personal issues ahead of what is important for our community by not allowing Doug and Dustin to continue and for that I apologize to the community.

  60. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

again twinangels a discussion way out of your league and since you supposedly have first aid training or are a supposed student why didn't you help that young man.

  61. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

And to address your attacks on Chad Smith twinangels didn't you also apply for the old ems or inquire and was turned away and applied for the city and was turned down so who is to say among other personal reasons you have for all of this that you being turned down by the old ems is why you are so animate about supporting the new ems which I hope the rest of them figure out you are not a good choice. Which was obvious on Saturday night when you did not help.

  62. eudorataxpayertoo (anonymous) says…

All sides have done great things EMS, Township and City. Yes, just like everyone there have been some things we all hope to learn from or forget. Why point out the negative? We all have to learn from our mistakes and we might become better people for that. The name calling and making accusations don't help us learn from our mistakes. The best place for this discussion is somewhere that a discussion can take place. Somewhere that allows for all involved parties to voice their concerns and then defend their decisions. First hand knowledge is great if used to teach, not to bring someone down. Anyone can spin a story to the negative, just look in any paper or watch the news.

If you have a point and believe in that point then why are so many people not signing their post. If it is something you believe to be true and worth standing up for then why not put your name on it. Take ownership for your comments and be an adult. Your comments have more meaning if you are accountable for those comments not just stirring the pot.

    Thanks

Oh I am positive I know who you are no doubt at all

  64. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Enoughalready remember when all the squabbling was going on in the previous Ems while others refused to respond cause of who was responding that Doug and Dustin always put that stuff behind and still did what they volunteered to do.

  65. Rodney_King (anonymous) says…

Can't we all just get along? I don't want to relive the LA riots here in Eudora. Do away with it all and bring in the county fire and medical.

  66. bubbles31 (anonymous) says…

Wouldn't be nice to have a full time EMS. Then we wouldn't have to worry about all this. While we are at it, full time firefighters would be great too.

  67. Thankyou (anonymous) says…

Bid "D" or miss "A" if that is you as twinangels please call me, that was so not a cool thing to do.

"J" thanks for the heads up.

Mr. Reazin you are going to do just fine.

--- It is easy to kick someone when they are down, just be prepared for what can happen when they stand back up.

D.M. facts of life quit standin round watching calls and get a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. Onthefence (anonymous) says…

First of all, Chief Ates....you are good for the city fire department. You have brought on great training for the firemen. I still don't know how this new ECEMS is doing. The response time is down which means that patient care is being delayed. When the chief was pushing to merge the unit it was stated by him, the mayor and the city administrator that the new ECEMS was going to be seperate from the city fire department. If that is the case why do the medical units now have city fire department response numbers issued to them. If it is seperate, why would the assistant fire chief be in charge in the absence of Chief Ates. If you go to the Kansas Board of EMS web site, the assistant fire chief is not even certified as any type of medical responder. I just can not beleive that the city management will allow untrained (or not even students as far as that goes) people respond to medical calls. Even if they dont do patient care, if they are just standing around looking, what are the victims going to think. Where does the liability stop and start. If Chief Ates has all of these trained people why does he still have to respond to every single call? (page 1)

  70. Onthefence (anonymous) says…

(page 2) The reason that Chief Ates has given the medical units fire department response numbers is that way he can count medical response numbers in his fire call run reports. This is known as padding. I am not saying that this is a bad thing because he will be able to get better grants this way. But what the city management needs to do is stop lying to the citizens of Eudora. With this padding taking place, the city management can now justify the high salary that they pay Chief Ates. With just the fire department calls alone his salary was very high for Eudora. They will be asking for higher taxes now and they will use the high call volume of medical calls to justify this. All you need to remember when they do this is that they told you in June of 2007 that the ECEMS and the fire department are two seperate units.

Facts of Life is not me as you can see by my log in name; Also Dont you think that enough is enough let it go people stop attacking peoples personal lives stop attacking each other and other departments. I have enjoyed my time away from ems and doing extra curricular activities with my family and would also agree with a prior post peoples families read these post and things do not look good so all I have to say is please just let it go leave well enough alone that is what is best for all departments and the community.

  72. Thankyou (anonymous) says…

twinangels please let it go, you know who you are hurting. if you seek forgiveness this is no way to earn it.

  73. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Twinangels you are right technology is great but it looks like that is the only friend you have left

  74. wowsers (anonymous) says…

since it was removed I will try again. I have known Dustin for ten years and this is just the worst postings I have seen just because he got in trouble 8,9,10 years ago doesnt mean you should hold that against him he has always been a good friend and is always there when needed as a friend and he did the same thing when it came to the ems stuff you all tried to get him in trouble all the time and no matter how many times you kicked him he still served the community with pride. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for acting this way and letting personal feelings get in way of what a person has done for your community, i believe you will all regret one day about some of the things you have posted. You are thinking of yourselves and not of your fellow neighbors thank god he was not that selfish and was able to help alot of people and they are greatful I am sure.

  75. SteveParker (anonymous) says…

Geez, put this topic to bed already. Just another example of Eudorians feeling some sense of entitlement here. 129 posts on a restructuring of the EMS? Good greif! I would hate to see what would happen if any real issues came up like the school district sticking their staff with a paltry 3% raise while trying to force a 45 million dollar bond down your face.

  76. itsbeenalongday (anonymous) says…

uh steve i think that would be discussed back and forth under the topic of schools! i was under the impression forums were designed for gathering and sharing information speaking ones mind etc and i was not aware that the number of posts should be limited sorry it has exceded the total you feel was necassary.looks like you have a case of the entitlement fever also or you wouldnt have posted a comment.

  77. SteveParker (anonymous) says…

Your name says it all. Just speaking my mind here. Please, I guess anyone who posts by your definition is entitled. Really anyone contemplating a move to this town who reads such an riduculously sad post like this one must be second guessing himself.

  78. itsbeenalongday (anonymous) says…

steve after looking back over the posts i have to say i agree with you to a certain degree.i still believe that any topic that affects the community as a whole, or continues to affect a handful of people is an important issue and should not be put to bed for all, because you have said goodnight to it. but 23 post have been removed, maybe some of the users on here would be more at home with a magic marker and a Jr High school restroom stall.

  79. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

    LOL

  80. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

well not supposed to comment anymore could get me kicked off but I will. Enoughalreadyinformation that you are talking about is considered slander and you claim to not be a member of any department which also means information you have you should not have do us all a favor and zip it before you wind up getting the county or city sued and then there goes even more money to improve our budgets use your head before you use your mouth.

  81. factsoflife (anonymous) says…

Theres alot of people who could have a case against alot of some of the old EEMS members that are new ECEMS members.

  82. Onthefence (anonymous) says…

Well....it looks like that the person running the new service has taken control of his men and women. I am guessing that since the postings have stopped they must have been forced to stop giving their opinion. It is a shame that people (volunteers) are not allowed to speak out. I can not beleive that one person can be so controling. Just to let everyone know, there are still uncertified people responding to medical calls. I hope that your family members are getting the proper care. I wonder if the State Board of EMS would be interested in hearing about this?

  83. oneplusoneisthree (anonymous) says…

I think it's more like kicking a dead horse. There's nothing left to talk about!

  84. Onthefence (anonymous) says…

Oh theres plenty to talk about or people would stop having post removed. Now it is just a matter of time before there are more headlines.

Point of View

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
