Dan Gregg awarded first responder of the year
Eudoran Dan Gregg has been awarded as the 1999 Eudora Emergency Medical Service first responder of the year.
Gregg, a Eudora EMS volunteer and Eudora Firefighter for three years, was given the award on July 26 by the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical Department.
"I'm proud to be part of the organization," Gregg said. "I feel it provides a great service to the community."
Matt Daigh, director of Eudora EMS, said candidates are named from emergency service departments across Douglas County. The departments include Baldwin City, Lecompton, Clarion Springs, Wakarusa Township, Overbrook Fire and Rescue and Eudora. The nominations are sent to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire and Medical Department who presented the award.
Daigh said the annual award is a great opportunity to recognize volunteers for their efforts throughout the previous year. Though largely ceremonial, Daigh said the award is given to those who are fueled by a desire to help others.
"It's just a desire to help people in their time of need," Daigh said. "It's kind of nice when someone says, 'Thank you for the work you do.'"
Gregg is also a Eudora City Council member and Democratic candidate for the 2nd District Douglas County Commission seat in November.
