An open-minded approach to teen issues is requested

Editorial

Last week, you may have noticed a new feature in your Eudora News.

The addition of an education page will take our strong commitment to Eudoras schools to the next level. A student or school program will be highlighted each week and every third week, we will feature the work of some of Eudoras top high school journalists.

The high school page will focus on issues facing local teens X from lighthearted issues like prom attire and the Homecoming king and queen to social issues like teen pregnancy, drinking and the school dress code.

Some may be quick to criticize a story about an unwed mother in these pages. We believe it to be a relevant issue that has been written about from virtually every angle X except one: by students.

We cant guarantee youll always be comfortable with the topic, but we pledge that every topic approached witll be reported and written with professionalism and good taste. The high school students charged with reporting a particular topic will do so by talking to all parties involved.

Teens offer an interesting perspective on life and the educational process that is all too often overlooked. Offering them a forum on issues they are faced with every day is a great way for all of us to learn.

We would ask everyone to go into this venture with an open mind and an objective opinion. If that can be achieved, theres no telling what we can learn from our next generation.

Were pleased they have chosen to share with us their lives with such spirit and enthusiasm and were certain their presence in these pages will enhance your weekly reading experience.
