Margaret Gabriel


Services for Margaret L. Gabriel, 85, Eudora, were Wednesday at Eudora United Methodist Church. Burial was in Eudora Cemetery.

Mrs. Gabriel died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Weaver Bottoms (near Eudora), the daughter of William and Ellen Bryant Spitzli. She grew up in Eudora.

Mrs. Gabriel was a homemaker and had taught for two years in the Evening Star School District near Eudora.

She was a member of the Eudora United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Eudora Historical Society.

She married Harold E. Gabriel on Dec. 10, 1938, in Olathe. He died Nov. 6, 2000.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Kay Knaub, Hoyt; two sons, Mark D. Gabriel, Eudora, and Jerry D. Gabriel, Bishop, Calif.; two sisters, Verneta Skwarlo, Shawnee, and Barbara Archer, Assaria; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Eudora United Methodist Church, the Eudora Library, or to the Eudora Area Historical Society. They may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Herbert L. Coleman


Graveside services for Herbert Lee Coleman, 74, Tonganoxie, were Friday at Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mr. Coleman died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Paola, the son of Jefferson and Grace (DeVol) Coleman.

Mr. Coleman worked for Kaw Motors Salvage, Lawrence. He retired in 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (Shoup) Coleman, of the home; two sons, Joe Coleman and Lloyd High, both of Wichita; three daughters, Elizabeth Coleman, Lawrence, Kim High, Eudora, and Dina Sprinkle, Owasso, Okla.; two sisters, Mary Lou Bolen, Pikeville, N.C., and Betty Jean Peet, Kansas City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to Tonganoxie Library, in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie 66086.

Mildred R. Ditty


Services for Mildred Rose Ditty, 72, Edwardsville, were Saturday at Quisenberry Chapel, Tonganoxie. Burial will follow in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie.

Mrs. Ditty died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Floyd and Louise (Overbaugh) Mills.

Mrs. Ditty was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Ditty, Linwood, Rodney Ditty, Eudora, and Cary Ditty, Tonganoxie; four brothers, Louis Mills, McLouth, and Charles Mills, Ed Mills and Fred Mills, all of Tonganoxie; four sisters, Ellen Harbaugh, Tonganoxie, Ruth Gerard, Parker, Colo., Frances Fanshler, Great Bend, and Florence Braga, Berwick, Maine; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Vernita Cynthia Wichman


Graveside services for Vernita Cynthia Wichman, 90, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. today in the Eudora Cemetery.

Mrs. Wichman died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000 at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born April 8, 1910 in Peculiar, Mo., the daughter of James and Ethel M. Clark Urton.

She married Ralph T. Wichman on April 8, 1933 in Lawrence. He died Dec. 25, 1999.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Wellsville from 1953 until 1975.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Randel, Baldwin City, Sandra K. Hoffman, Pittsburg; two brothers, Taylor Urton, El Dorado, Floyd Page, Wichita; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Eudora Nursing Center in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence.
