Services for Glen McGonigle, 84, Lawrence, were Monday, June 12, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services were Tuesday at the Salem Community Cemetery, Nickerson.
Mr. McGonigle died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Eudora Nursing Center.
He was born April 28, 1916, in Minneola, the son of Elmer and Nellie (McGonigle) Albus. He was adopted and raised by his uncle and aunt, Frank O. and Mae Erion McGonigle, in 1921. He graduated from high school in Nickerson and also from McPherson College. He attended graduate school at Kansas University.
Mr. McGonigle was a teacher, farmer and stockman. He started teaching in 1937 in Bushnell, Neb., and later taught and coached at Attica, Council Grove and Junction City. He retired in 1985 after teaching for 25 years in the physics department at KU.
Mr. McGonigle was a member of Clinton Parkway Assembly of God Church.
He married Josephine Marie Shirar in 1938 in Nickerson. She died in 1986. He married Mary Lou Schusler on Nov. 7, 1987. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Liebnitz, Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Fern Savory, Walnut, Ill., and Norma Krieger, Ohio, Ill.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A son, Dennis, died earlier.
The family suggests memorials to Eudora Nursing Center or Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
