Eudora finds silver at Silver Lake
Aaron Slavin won the 1,600-meter run and two Eudora High relay teams also posted gold-medal performances as the Cardinals traveled west and finished second in the Silver Lake Invitational last Friday.
Slavin ran a 4:40, while the 4x800 and hurdle relay teams posted winning performances to pace the Cardinals, who scored 100 points in the meet. The girls team finished sixth with 48 points.
Second-place finishers for the boys included Zac Tyler in the 400 meters with a time of 51.5, Cyrus Hall in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:22, the 4x100 relay team, and the 4x400 relay team.
Hurdlers Steve Krutz and Brian Harris garnered third-place finishes in their respective events, while Jay Pewenofkit placed third in the 800-meter run.
In the girls competition, Jenny Durkin's mark of 4-8 in the high jump was good enough for second place. She was the only Cardinal to finish better than fourth in an event.
Brandi Abel took fourth in the high jump, while Deneile Wright (100 meters), Kelly Campbell (400 meters) and Sarah Abel (200 meters) each took fourth.
The boys frosh-soph team finished second, thanks to first-place performances by pole vaulter Nate Cleveland, discus thrower Wes Hinman and Tyler Matthews, whose 17.56 in the high hurdles set the standard.
Leroy Goodman finished second in both the 100- and 200-meter events, while three relay teams also finished second. Javelin thrower Melissa Steel finished second in the girls competiion, as did the 4x400 relay team.
