Services for Harold H. Bailey, 96, Lawrence, were Tuesday, April 10, at Lawrence Heights Christian Church. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with graveside Masonic services by Palmyra Lodge No. 23, A.F. & A.M., Baldwin.

Mr. Bailey died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born April 23, 1904, in Clinton, Okla., the son of Henry and Julia Melissa (Hammond) Bailey. He graduated from Clinton (Okla.) High School in 1925 and attended Oklahoma A&M University. He moved to Baldwin in 1942.

Mr. Bailey farmed with his father in Clinton County, Oklahoma, and moved in 1931 to Wilson County, Kansas, where he also farmed. He moved to Baldwin in 1942 and worked at Sunflower Ordnance Works.

He also worked in construction and as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. He retired in 1970. From 1970 to 1977, he sold minerals and feed for Triple F Feed Co., Des Moines, Iowa.

Mr. Bailey was a member of Lawrence Heights Christian Church; Palmyra Lodge No. 23, A.F. & A.M., Baldwin; Evangeline Chapter No. 162, Order of Eastern Star, Baldwin; and Scottish Rite, Lawrence.

He married Vera Etta Jarvis on April 20, 1930, in Dewey County, Okla. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Walter Bailey, Baldwin, and Russell Bailey, Lawrence; two daughters, Erma Fuller, Ottawa, and Mary Webb, Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Heights Christian Church, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
