Septic waste disposal options being considered

August 2, 2001

Septic waste from unincorporated areas of Douglas County isn't headed toward Eudora anymore.

From March until May, the wastewater treatment plant in Eudora welcomed Douglas County sewage at a rate of $45.80 per 1,000 gallons. The county waste had been taken to Lawrence's facility, but rate increases led septic haulers to dump the sewage on rural areas. Although legal, applying the sewage to rural land irked some landowners. The county then looked to Eudora to process the waste.

County officials are looking at other options while the waste is sent to Lawrence or applied to farmland.
