February primary needed in board contest

January 25, 2001

Seven residents competing for three positions on the Eudora school board will get their names on early ballots this year.

Board president Marion Johnson and incumbents Carlie Abel and Bob Rice each have terms expiring this year and have filed for re-election. Brenda Clark, Richard Palmer, Tracy Bowling and James Harris have also filed.

A Feb. 27 primary will be needed to trim the trim the list of board candidates to six.

A primary will not be needed in the city council race or mayoral races.

Four candidates will vie for two positions on the Eudora City Council. Council members Rex Burkhardt and Pat Dardis' terms expire. Dardis will not seek re-election, but Burkhardt has re-filed. Doug Woods and Robin Ross have also filed for the position.

Mayor Fred Stewart will defend his seat against Ron Conner, who filed earlier this week.

The general election for school and city positions will be April 3. Filings for all positions ended noon, Tuesday.
