Roach murder suspect still without charges
Although the Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office turned over evidence in last month's shooting case near Linwood, County Attorney Frank Kohl said they didn't have enough evidence to charge Charles Leach with a crime.
Leach is the father-in-law of Michael Roach, a 38-year-old Eudora man shot and killed on Leach's property June 11.
However, the case isn't closed.
"There isn't any case that's closed until you determine that all leads have been exhausted or no crime has occurred," Kohl said. "That isn't the case here."
Kohl said the county attorney's office had to give officials more time to determine if anyone besides Leach could be responsible.
Det. Sgt. John Schermbeck of the sheriff's office said authorities talked with Kohl about what else he needed to form a case.
"For the time, we have completed it and we've gone about as far as we know," Schermbeck said.
