Authorities still investigating shooting death, no charges filed
The Leavenworth County Attorney's Office has not yet filed charges against Charles Leach, the Linwood man suspected in the June 11 shooting of his son-in-law from Eudora.
Authorities are still investigating the shooting.
"We're waiting until any information, any witnesses that might have something to add, come forward," Leavenworth County Attorney Frank Kohl said. "We don't have a lot of information at this point."
Kohl said he couldn't estimate when or if they might file charges.
Leach, who retained counsel the day of the shooting, alleges self-defense.
"I know that's what he's alleging, but that would be an ultimate question for a jury to decide," Kohl said.
Michael Roach, 38, was shot in a field at Leach's home near Linwood. Roach, who filed for divorce from Leach's daughter earlier that day, was reportedly at the Leach's to gather some belongings.
Roach graduated from Eudora High School in 1981. He was a subcontractor who, along with a few employees, framed houses.
