Eudora Carpet Connection moving to new building

March 1, 2001

After two years of rolling out the carpet for area customers, a Eudora business is expanding to better serve its clientele.

Eudora Carpet Connection is moving to a new location in the 1400 block of Church Street, behind Kwik Shop. Co-owner Lisa McClanahan said the store needed another location with more room for displaying merchandise. The store is currently located on 20th Street, south of K-10 Highway and west of Church Street. McClanahan runs the store with her husband, Melven.

"Our showroom is supposed to be almost triple in size from what it is now," she said. "One of the reasons we're moving is to get a bigger showroom than we have now. We've let the carpet store grow and build itself."

The company, which opened in April 1999, will expand from 1,500 square feet to 2,000 square feet. McClanahan said three-fourths of her business is from Eudora customers and the city's growth has played a part in the need for a larger store. However, finding a new location wasn't easy, she said.

"Eudora is just growing so fast," McClanahan said. "There's not a lot of choices."

With the help of a customer, McClanahan was presented with an offer she couldn't refuse. Mary Ann Stewart has used Eudora Carpet Connection and was happy with the quality and service, she said.

"When Lisa and them came into Eudora, I'm the type if you can use a Eudora company do it," Stewart said. "I think everybody should use the businesses in Eudora if it will at all work."

After discussing the businesses' need with McClanahan, Stewart decided to make an investment. She will build and own the new location, which will be rented to Eudora Carpet Connection.

McClanahan said the building should open in its new location near mid-April. The move will require one additional employee for office work. The company currently employs one part-time employee and four carpet-laying crews of three workers each.

The move will be followed by an increase in business hours. The store will be open seven days a week. It is currently open Tuesday through Saturday.
