New pastor steps up to the pulpit
Eudora's First Southern Baptist Church is among the latest of local churches undergoing some changes.
Waylon Ingle was named the church's new pastor Feb. 25. Ingle came from the First Baptist Church of Iola, where he served as pastor for 12 years. He stepped down from his pastoral position in Iola because of illness and fatigue, he said.
"They were sick and tired of me," he joked.
After taking a break from pastoring, Ingle came to First Southern Baptist in November 2000 to serve as the church's interim pastor. He was soon asked by church members to take the position permanently. He said the hardest part of starting at a new church is leaving old friends behind.
"It's always hard to move because you develop deep relationships and friends," he said.
Though working in Eudora, he hasn't been able to move to town yet. A problem with the furnace in the church parsonage has caused him to delay a full-scale move until the repairs are made. He and his wife currently live in Overland Park. They have three children, none of who live at home.
Ingle said he was looking forward to trying some new ideas in the church. Plans are in the works for a new children's program called Awana to begin this fall.
"We obviously have some changes in store," he said.
Ingle said the welcome by church members has been a warm one. He hopes to take that reception into Eudora, along with a divine message.
"I have found this church to be a very loving family and they have received us warmly," he said. "That's what I'd like this community to know ... we're providing that."
