Services for Eunice P. Smith, 77, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, north Lawrence.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of Simon and Bertha Vogt Owens.

Mrs. Smith had worked as a checker at Rusty's IGA and had also worked for Gibson's & Tempo. She retired in 1975. She was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.

She married Leland E. Smith in 1941. They later divorced. She then married Eddie S. Tanner. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Eric Smith and Dennis Smith, both of Eudora; a sister, Norma B. Belles, Lawrence; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence 66044.
