Eudora PTO to host weekend carnival
If you're looking for something to pass the time and keep the little ones entertained this Saturday, a PTO-sponsored event may be just the thing.
The Eudora Parent Teacher Organization will hold a carnival 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday at Laws Field. Some funds raised from the carnival will be used to pay for teacher appreciation luncheons and events such as Doughnuts for Dads and Muffins for Moms. The carnival also funds the assertive discipline program, which awards a trip at the end of the year for students with no detentions. This month, students from Nottingham Elementary will venture to Jeepers, an indoor amusement area in Olathe and Eudora West Elementary students will spend a day at Worlds of Fun.
PTO secretary Shari Turnbaugh said the carnival is something new for the organization.
"This is the first carnival that we've had," Turnbaugh said. "We're going to try and make it an annual event. We have been preselling tickets and it's been going over very well."
Activities will include an inflatable Moonwalk, jumbo slide and 12 games booths such as basketball and balloon dart games. Turnbaugh said fifth-grade teacher Greg Wolf will have prizes hidden in his apparel and participants will be able to pick his pocket for prizes. Turnbaugh anticipated the event to be interesting for the teacher and prize seekers.
"That's something we're going to look forward to Mr. Wolf is going to be in a dress."
Tickets are five for $1 if purchased before Saturday and four for $1 the day of the carnival. Turnbaugh said 25 tickets should be enough for a child to participate in all the activities.
Advance tickets are available by calling Turnbaugh at 542-1068.
