Leon E. Gordon
Services for Leon E. Gordon, 76, Eudora, were Saturday, May 19, at the Hesper Friends Church, south of Eudora. His body was donated to the Kansas University Medical Center.
Mr. Gordon died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Williamsburg, the son of William E. and Bertha L. (Drummond) Gordon. He attended schools in Williamsburg and Lawrence. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, and he worked as a bricklayer until founding his own company, Eudora Masonry Inc., in 1978. He retired in 1989.
He was a 53-year member of Bricklayers Local No. 3. He also was a member of Eagles Lodge, American Legion Post No. 14 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Lawrence, and Eudora Southern Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and had served as treasurer of the Eudora Ministerial Alliance.
He married Elda M. Kring. She died in March 1974. He was engaged to marry Irene Hird. She died in April 1980. He married Betty L. Beach. She died in June 1994.
A sister, Evelyn M. Elston, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a companion, Ruby Neilson, Berryton; a daughter, Sheila A. Gordon Medina, Eudora; two sons, Rick L. Beach, Andover, and Bill Gordon, Eudora; a brother, Warren S. Gordon, Linwood; a sister, Betty J. Ryan, Eudora; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
