Services for Walter F. Beers, 74, Lawrence, were Monday, Oct. 22, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial was in Prairie Center Cemetery, Johnson County.

Mr. Beers died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community. He was a longtime resident of Lawrence.

He was born July 2, 1927, in Mitchell, Neb., the son of Walter L. and Wilma (Winchell) Beers.

Mr. Beers served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a press operator for Kansas Color Press from 1950 until the plant closed. He was past president of Local 377 of the Printing Press and Assistants Union. He also owned WB Auto & Trailer Sales from 1957 until his retirement in 1997. He had been a singer and guitarist for the Something Country Band for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 555 in Topeka, Lawrence Antique Automobile Club and the Topeka High-Performance Ford Club.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Beers, Eudora, and Michael Beers, Lawrence; a daughter, Denise Curnes, Lawrence; a brother, Larry Beers, Eudora; and four grandchildren.

Two sisters, Helen Swift and Lois Bothe, preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Research, sent in care of the mortuary.
