Police continue investigation on stolen ammonia

September 6, 2001

Eudora police are still investigating the theft of ammonia from Eudora Feed and Grain Aug. 14. They have no suspects.

Police Chief Bill Long said the theft was noticeable from a leak in the tank. Police don't know how much was stolen.

"Most of the theft of that stuff is taken for use in a lab," Long said. Eudora police discovered two or three meth labs several years ago.

"We had a rush of it awhile ago," Long said.

Despite the common use of stolen ammonia, Long said investigation on the case would be any different than usual.

"We'll work it as a theft, and come up with some suspects," he said.

Eudora police are also investigating a break-in at the Eudora Medical Clinic and Byrne's Pharmacy Aug. 25. Nothing was stolen, Long said, making it difficult to guess what the intruders wanted. He said pharmaceuticals were stored separately in a safe. The building's alarm may have scared intruders as well, Long said.
