Durkin to replace Woods on Council
Mayor Ron Conner met his end-of-summer deadline for naming a replacement Eudora City Council member when he asked the Council to approve Don Durkin to fill the seat left empty when Doug Woods left the Council in May after moving outside the city limits.
"I think he'd be a good addition to the council and willing to fill the spot," Conner said of Durkin.
The Council voted 3-1 to approve Durkin to serve the more than two and a half years remaining on the seat. Council member Willene Blackburn, who voted against the approval, said she thought the council ought to take more time to consider the nomination. Fellow Council member Rex Burkhardt disagreed.
"I think we need to move on this," Burkhardt said.
Conner said Durkin, who is on the recreation commission, would have to quit that position in order to join the council.
Durkin could not be reached before publication.
