Maples-Base
Belinda Maples and Kevin Base, both of Baldwin, announce their engagement.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mike Maples, Lawrence, and Sandy Wiley, Olathe. She is a 1987 graduate of Eudora High School. She is employed by the KU Endowment Association.
The future groom is the son of Dean and Barbara Base, Lawrence. He is a 1986 graduate of Lawrence High School. He is employed by Sauer-Danfoss.
The couple plan an Oct. 5 wedding at Three Sisters Inn in Baldwin.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
