German Christmas Festival
Clearfield United Methodist Church will have its annual German Christmas Festival at 4 p.m. Dec. 14. Festivities begin with the tree lighting, which features a real Christmas tree and candles.
A German bratwurst dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The craft bazaar and bake sale also begin at 4 p.m.
The Eudora High School choir, Glory Generations and the Jeannie Furst Group will present musical performances.
The community is invited to attend. Clearfield Church is seven miles south of Eudora on County Road 1061.
Christmas open house
Eudora Nursing Center, 1415 Maple, will have its Christmas open house from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday for residents, family and friends.
Refreshments will be served, and Christmas caroling will take place.
Door prizes will be drawn throughout the morning and the silent auction will close at 11 a.m.
Home tour planned
Guests can take a tour of eight Eudora homes and the 1864 Holy Family Catholic Church during a holiday home tour benefiting the annual Eudora Relay for Life American Cancer Society event.
The tour is from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 15, and homes can be visited in any order. Refreshments will be provided at the historic church, Ninth and Church streets.
At one of the stops on the tour, designer Pam Burton will have home decor items for sale, and 20 percent of the sales proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
Guests who complete all nine stops on the tour and have a stamp from the host at each location will be eligible to enter a drawing for a $100 gift certificate from C&S Market.
Tickets and maps are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance by calling Julie Stewart at 542-3379 or Marilyn Laws Porter at 542-3406. Tickets will be available the day of the tour at the church as well.
Light Up Eudora
The Eudora Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its "Light Up Eudora" contest again this year. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Dec. 20. The contest rewards the areas best holiday light displays.

Registration forms can be turned in at Eudora City Hall, C&S Market, Byrne's Pharmacy, or The Eudora News.
Entries will be judged Dec. 21. Contestants should have their lights turned on between 6 and 10 p.m. for judging.
Grand prize is $100; first place township and city, $75 each; second place overall, $50; seven honorable mentions, $25 each.
The Eudora Parks and Recreation will sponsor a holiday lights trip to the Kansas City area for individuals 60 years of age and older Dec. 10.
Hosts Tim and Tammy Donovan will drive through Crown Center, the Country Club Plaza and parts of Johnson County to view Kansas City's variety of building lights, displays and decorations.
The group will depart from the Eudora Middle School parking lot at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Registration deadline is Sunday.
Anyone planning to attend is asked to call the Eudora Parks and Recreation department at 542-1725 and leave a name, address and phone number.
Santa mailbox available
The Eudora Post Office has a mailbox available in its lobby for letters to Santa Claus.
The St. Theresa's Society of Holy Family Catholic Church will have its annual Christmas party and auction following the 5 p.m. Mass Saturday in the parish hall.
All women of the parish are invited to attend and bring an appetizer and/or dessert and a new, wrapped gift for the auction.
Childcare will be provided.
Area Christmas events
Free State Farm will sponsor horse drawn trolley rides from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 around holiday-decorated downtown Lawrence.
The cost is $3 for adults and $2 for children 12 and younger. The rides will benefit Therapeutic Horse Riding Instruction of Lawrence, a not-for-profit, charitable organization that is staffed by volunteers.
Twenty-five people can be accommodated in the wagon. The ride will depart from in front of the Eldridge Hotel, Seventh and Massachusetts streets, approximately every 20 minutes.

The Lawrence Art Guild presents the annual Holiday Art Fair from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a wine and cheese social from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Art Guild, 940 New Hampshire.
