Holiday light contest registration ends Friday
Eudorans with a flare for decorating -- or at least a lot of wattage radiating from their home -- have until 5 p.m. Friday to sign up for the "Light Up Eudora" contest. Sponsored by the Eudora Chamber of Commerce, the contest will recognize Eudora's most outstanding light displays with a $100 grand prize.
The best city and township displays will earn decorators $75 each. The Chamber will also reward $50 to second place overall and give out seven honorable mention designations, worth $25 each.
Entries will be judged Saturday, so residents entered in the contest should plan on having their lights turned on between 6 and 10 p.m. To enter the contest, participants must turn in a registration form at one of several Eudora businesses or offices:
- Eudora City Hall, 4 E. Seventh St.
- C&S Market, 1402 Church St.
- Byrne's Pharmacy,101 W. 10th St.
- The Eudora News, 1402-B Church St.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
