Board to discuss Laws Field future
The Eudora USD 491 Board of Education will have a special meeting to discuss the future of Laws Field at 7 p.m. Monday at the Eudora High School library .
At the Sept. 12 board meeting, Superintendent Kobza said Laws Field needed to be addressed soon because of the bond issue and the new high school's construction. Kobza said he thought a special board meeting would be needed to cover all aspects.
Board member Greg Neis said some options included selling Laws Field to the city or a developer, updating the facilities for soccer, or maintaining it as a football field.
"With the public, it's going to be hard to take away the football stadium there," Neis said.
Part of the problem with the facility is that the track can't be widened from six to eight lanes, which are necessary for state and regional competition.
Fellow board member Carlie Abel said he didn't want to see the facility moved south of Kansas Highway 10 when the bulk of Eudorans live north of the highway.
"I hate to see everything leapfrogging out there," he said. "(Laws) is the kind of thing I'd really regret seeing out there."
