Council approves plan for Eudora’s growth
A 19-month effort to update the document that guides Eudora's growth ended Monday when the City Council approved a plan that designated additional areas for commercial development.
"A lot of good, hard work has gone into it," said Mayor Ron Conner of the community effort to update the city's comprehensive plan.
Responding to city leaders' requests to plan for more commercial development in Eudora, planning consultants added designations in the comprehensive plan for more commercial development. Planning consultant Sean Ackerson said looking at the potential commercial areas the Council suggested, the plan should include more than enough commercial space. The changes included:
¢ the area north of Kansas Highway 10 from Church Street to Winchester Road.
¢ the Winchester Road and 10th Street area.
¢ the vicinity of 10th Street near Intech business park.
As for that last area, Ackerson said the city would do well to concentrate commercial development near the Douglas County 442 interchange with K-10 rather than near the business park.
During the meeting, the Council also approved a final development plan for Briarwood Estates, planned for the triangle of land between Whispering Meadows/Prairie Estates and Kansas Highway 10.
The Council also followed the Planning Commission's recommendation to deny changes to a Whispering Meadows addition that includes commercial development and townhomes. The Council will revisit a Whispering Meadows addition south of 28th Street during its next meeting, Jan. 12.
