Oma L. Dent Girsch
Services for Oma Louise Dent Girsch, 89, Gardner, were Monday, Dec. 22, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner. Burial was in De Soto Cemetery.
Mrs. Girsch died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Medicalodge in Gardner.
She was born March 6, 1914, in Linwood, the daughter of William Harvey and Nellie May (Turner) Dent. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1931 and moved to Gardner from Kansas City, Kan., in 1965.
Mrs. Girsch was the Gardner news community columnist for the Tri County News for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a community volunteer.
She served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner, where she was a member. She also was a member of the Gardner Lake Association, Crafty Crew and Dizzy Doers, Athena Club, Gardner Historical Society, Oddfellows and the Rebekah Lodge in Gardner and Rebekah Lodge No. 631 of De Soto.
Mrs. Girsch volunteered at the Gardner Hospital and Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital. The Chamber of Commerce honored her as Gardner Citizen of the Year. She also volunteered and worked at Lanesfield Museum with her husband. She was active with projects and worked for years as an election poll worker.
She married Harry J. Girsch on Dec. 23, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan. He died in 1998.
She is survived by her nephew, Leland Penner, De Soto.
Her sister, Pansy Penner, preceded her in death.
