Carl Duane “Butch” Porter
Services for Carl Duane "Butch" Porter, 56, Lawrence, were Monday, Jan. 6, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial was in Wellsville Cemetery.
Mr. Porter died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Wellsville, the son of Floyd and Naomi (Caruthers) Porter. He lived in Sunflower Village until he and his family moved in 1958 to Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1964.
Mr. Porter was a supervisor for the Lawrence Journal-World for 38 years and contributed to the weekly production of The Eudora News. He also owned and operated Old Tymer Clock Service. He was a charter member of YSI Youth Sports and a DCABA coach for many years. He was a member of Mid-America Newspaper Conference and a bowling league.
He married Nancy Lee Dolan on Aug. 28, 1966, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne Porter and Daniel Duane Porter, both of Lawrence; three brothers, Billy Dean Porter, Robert Eugene Porter and James Edward Porter, all of Lawrence; a sister, Wanda Lou Vickery, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.
A brother, Charles Lynn Porter, died in 1987.
The family suggests memorials to American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
