Election deadlines approaching
Eudorans interested in running for Eudora City Council or USD 491 Board of Education seats have until noon Tuesday to file with the Douglas County Clerk's Office. Applications are available at Eudora City Hall, 4 E. Seventh St., or at the county courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. in Lawrence. Filing for the election costs $5, or candidates can obtain a petition with 25 registered voters' signatures to waive the fee.
The Council has three seats up for the election, and the School Board has four positions for consideration this spring. Council candidates must live in the Eudora city limits, and Board candidates must live within the school district's boundaries.
The primary election will be Feb. 25, with the general election taking place April 1.
To vote in the primary, voters must have registered by Feb. 10. The deadline to register for the general election is March 17. Voters can register at City hall, the Eudora Public Library, 114 E. Ninth St., or the Eudora Post Office, 709 Main St. A registration form can also be downloaded from the county's Web site at www.douglas-county.com/clerk/vote.asp.
Voters wanting to cast their ballots in advance can apply online at the Web site or by calling 832-5276. Ballots can be sent out up to 20 days prior to the election and are due to the county election office by the close of the polls election day.
