Services for Julie Schindler, 47, Hill City, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hill City. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.
Mrs. Schindler died Sunday, April 27, 2003, from injuries suffered in a car accident on Kansas Highway 10 bypass just north of U.S. Highway 40 west of Lawrence.
She was born Jan. 19, 1956, in Hoxie, the daughter of Norman J. and Bessie O. (Birch) Hickert. She was a lifelong resident of Hill City. She graduated summa cum laude from Fort Hays State University.
Mrs. Schindler taught science at Oakley Middle School for 11 years. She was a secretary for Jayhawker Rodeo Roundup Committee and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, National Education Assn. and Kansas National Education Assn.
She married Louis G. Schindler on June 2, 1977, in Hill City. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Bo Schindler, Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter, Beverly Novacky, Eudora; two stepdaughters, Lori Schindler, Wellington, and Lisa Inslee, Attica; three brothers, Joe Hickert, Loveland, Colo., Bill Hickert, Russell, and David Hickert, Hill City; and 11 grandchildren.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel in Hill City or from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church, where a Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to the Julie Schindler Scholarship Fund, administered through the Oakley Board of Education, sent in care of the funeral home, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City 67642.
