District enrollment tops 1,200
Eudora USD 491 official student enrollment counts show the district has grown by about 50 students since last school year. Head counts taken Sept. 22, this year's official enrollment day across the state, showed 1,249 students in attendance. Last year's audited headcount enrollment in the district was 1,193.8.
Enrollment numbers taken Sept. 22 at Kansas schools are what the state will use to determine the amount of funding each district should receive. The state looks at the district's total full-time equivalency -- 1,184.7 this school year -- to apportion funding based on how many students attend classes all day. For instance, the district doesn't get the same funding for a kindergartner who attends half days as it does for a full-day first-grade student. In FTE counts, then, a kindergartner is counted as half a student.
Counts taken Sept. 22 show the district's largest class is this year's third graders, who numbered 115 on the official count day. The third-grade classes moved into West Elementary School this academic year.
The high school was the building with the most students, 369, during this year's official count.
