Safety matters

October 9, 2003

I would like to thank the organizations and their members who participated in the EudoraFest 2003 Safe Kids Fair on Oct. 4. The beautiful weather and the information and items distributed by these organizations all contributed to a successful event.
Agencies involved were: Lawrence Douglas County Fire and Medical, Safe Kids Coalition, Eudora Fire Department, Eudora Police Department, American Red Cross of Douglas County, Crimestoppers, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Hunter Education program. Gambino's Pizza of Eudora sponsored the event with coupons for free mini-pizzas to those completing the stations.
Lt. David Rector with LDCFM managed to provide free bicycle helmets for distribution on a very busy day for their agency. They were also raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy at their training facility in Lawrence. I am especially grateful they attended our event while hosting a fund-raiser for one of their own.
John Drees from Lawrence Memorial Hospital with the Safe Kids Coalition safety station brought his army of helpers. They inspected car seats for proper installation and educated many persons to ensure precious cargo is safely strapped in.
Thanks again to all involved.
