Volunteers in for late night with after prom

April 1, 2004

For most parents of Eudora High School students, it's probably been a while since they've pulled an "all-nighter." But with the school's after prom party, parents can have another chance later this month.
The party, which provides students a safe, supervised environment for after-prom activity, is in need of about 20 parent volunteers to help run the casino and relay games that have become a staple of the event.
"The casino is our biggest concern -- getting people for that," said organizer Bonnie Neis.
In addition to having relay races running all night long, Neis said the event would include the "extreme" games the organizers rent for the event, as well as plenty of food.
To make the event happen, organizers rely on donations from area businesses.
"We've pretty much saturated everybody, and they've been generous," Neis said.
If businesses still wanted to donate, she said event organizers would welcome cash or items for game prizes.
As usual, the theme will be kept a secret for the students. Last year's theme was "Wild, Wild West."
This year, prom will move from its usual spot on the Kansas University campus to the commons of the new Eudora High School building. The after prom party will take place at Eudora Middle School, where prom-goers must check in by 1 a.m. to be admitted.
To volunteer, call Neis at the high school at 542-4980.
