Joan Bichelmeyer Grimm

A double funeral mass for Joan Bichelmeyer Grimm, 66, Shawnee, and her father, John F. Bichelmeyer, was Monday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Mrs. Grimm died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Lakeview Village in Lenexa.

She was born March 23, 1938, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of John F. and Mary H. Matson Bichelmeyer. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1956 and attended Loretto Heights Academy in Denver.

She worked as a stewardess for TransWorld Airlines. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Resurrection Choir. She was a benefactor of Ottawa Suzuki Strings and Kansas City Youth Symphony. She also supported KANU Public Radio Station in Lawrence through service and contributions. She was co-author of "Country Boy, City Boy," which is a chronicle of her father's life.

She married C. Louis Grimm on Dec. 27, 1958, at the church in Shawnee. He died earlier.

Survivors include three sons, Michael L. Grimm, Overland Park, Douglas A. Grimm, San Antonio, and Andrew A. Grimm, Shawnee; two daughters, Mary K. Grimm Dyche, Shawnee, and Anne M. Grimm, Hamilton, New Zealand; three brothers, James N. Bichelmeyer, Joseph M. Bichelmeyer and Jerome L. Bichelmeyer, all of Shawnee; five sisters, Judith K. Sumpter, Lenexa, Jean M. Jenkins, Emporia, Jane C. Wetzel, Westwood, Mary B. Lucas, Mission Hills, and Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, Bloomington, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Joan Grimm Memorial, sent in care of Ottawa Suzuki Strings, P.O. Box 99, Ottawa 66067.
