Planners greenlight Meadows

As with most other developments, Eudora’s newest neighborhood didn’t garner recommendation for approval from city planners without reservations from the city and neighbors. However, it wasn’t the townhomes planned for The Meadows at 15th that sparked debate but rather features of the neighborhood that some feared would impede safety.
Eastside park on drawing board

After several years in the works, the city has a new eastside park on the drawing board — literally. Parks and Recreation Director Bobby Arnold shared a layout of the park, near 14th and Chestnut streets, with members of the Eudora City Council at Monday’s meeting. The drawing shows a small street-side parking lot, small playground area, landscaping, and two basketball courts.

The improvements city leaders foresee during the next five years range from mundane necessities to projects that could excite the average Eudoran. “Some of this stuff has no ‘sex appeal,’ like sewer lines,” said City Administrator Mike Yanez. “And some of this is visionary.”
Fire, police show need for building in city’s center

Eudora police and fire departments have the footprints laid for a proposed centrally-located public safety office. Although land has not yet been acquired, Police Chief Greg Dahlem and Fire Chief Spencer McCabe have drawn a picture of a shared public safety office for both departments that includes more room and better facilities.
