Services for Robert Wesley Johnson Sr., 61, Lawrence, were Saturday, Jan. 24, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at his home.
He was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Little Blue, Mo., the son of Lawrence Selvin "Mike" and Eva Mae (How) Johnson. He moved to Kansas when he was young and lived in the De Soto area until he moved to rural Baldwin City in the late 1950s. He attended schools in Lenape, Willow Springs and De Soto.
Mr. Johnson worked on his family's farm from an early age and did farm work the rest of his life. He was also a carpenter with Carpenters Local 2279, a millwright and a truck driver for Moore Mail Service before he retired in 2002. He also repaired, restored and researched tractors and other farm machinery.
He married Lora Lee Wiggins on Dec. 14, 1963, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include his mother, Lawrence; two daughters, Kelly Jo Breitenbach, Berryton, and Kathryn Lorinda Johnson, Lawrence; two sons, Daniel Ray Johnson and Robert Wesley Johnson Jr., both of Lawrence; two sisters, Roxie Glaza, Shelby Township, Mich., and Winona Evans, Lawrence; six brothers, Leland Johnson, Overbrook, Dennis Johnson, Louisberg, Mo., Jimmie Johnson, Baldwin City, Billy Johnson, Olathe, Gary Johnson, Muleshoe, Texas, and Lawrence Johnson, Eudora; and six grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to the Oncology Research Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital or Heartland Hospice of Topeka, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.
