I would like to extend my appreciation to those who helped make the "Salute to Our Soldiers" tribute (Oct. 7, 2004 issue of The Eudora News) a reality.
The homecoming parade is Oct. 13. The Eudora Masons have offered their fire truck as our float, and the local Lions Club has offered assistance to any families needing help while family members are activated. For more information, call Tom Tucker at 542-3927.
I appreciate the help of Linda Meyers, and Erinn Barcomb and Theresa Abel at The Eudora News for their time and efforts in recovering numbers, writing articles and making lots of phone calls.
I also want to acknowledge all the people who submitted information. It was overwhelming at times to be surrounded with so much history of the past and the present and to see the faces of our graduates in uniform, standing proudly by their flag, to read their accomplishments (many of which are not published because of confidentiality reasons), and to hear not only the concerns of parents but also the strength of these parents in the pride they have in their children's decisions and sacrifices. To express the words of gratitude for the job they do is indescribable.
Several veterans shared a common thread: "If I get a call to reactivate, I'd do it in a heartbeat."
That attitude was a special gift I was able to open and cherish forever.
To the community of Eudora: Our fellow Eudorans need our support and gratitude. Send them a note or e-mail them, or let the parents know we care. Thank you to our servicemen and servicewomen for representing our town and our country as well as you do. We love you. Come home soon. We miss you.
