Sibyl E. Rice

Graveside services for Sibyl E. Rice, 95, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Prairie Center Cemetery in rural Johnson County, southeast of Eudora.
Mrs. Rice died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Eudora Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 25, 1908, in Prairie Center, the daughter of John Milton and Mary Ida Andrew White. She grew up in Prairie Center and graduated from Eudora High School in 1927.
Mrs. Rice and her husband ran a small grocery store, filling station and garage in Prairie Center until the United States government purchased the property for Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. They owned and operated Rice Oil Company in Lawrence for several years. She later worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital kitchen for 12 years. They moved to Eudora in 1971.
She married Edwin L. Rice on July 24, 1927, in Stark. He died May 17, 1989.
Survivors include three sons, Gayle Rice, Olathe, and Robert R. Rice and Duane Rice, both of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Verla May, Lawrence, and Jeanne Dean, Eudora; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
