Lorena A. Shoup Abbott

Services for Lorena Alma Shoup Abbott, 90, Lawrence, were Tuesday, April 12, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Abbott died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at her home.

She was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Hoyt, the daughter of Chester E. and Lillie Renfro Shoup. She lived most of her life in Eudora and moved to Lawrence in 2001.

She worked at the Hercules Powder Plant for several years and was a waitress at various restaurants, including Jim's Steak House. She also worked at the Eudora Nursing Center until her retirement in 1979.

Mrs. Abbott was a longtime member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Golden Age of Eudora. She also was a member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence, and she worked with Vacation Bible School.

She married Winfred H. "Winnie" Abbott on Aug. 21, 1948, in Topeka. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include four daughters, Virginia Bourgeault, Palm Bay, Fla., Geraldine Coleman and Norma "Jeanne" Torneden, both of Lawrence, and Shirley Campbell Varney, Olathe; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Donald E. Campbell and Gerald R. Campbell, died earlier.

The family suggests memorials to Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
