August 11, 2005

Gregory S. Longbine, the 15-year-old son of Eudora High School graduate Gwen Yarnell Longbine, died Aug. 10 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita from injuries received in a one-vehicle rollover accident early Sunday morning in southwestern Lyon County.

Two other teenagers involved in the accident remain hospitalized. Dillon Cox, 16, was moved from serious to fair condition and was moved out of intensive care Tuesday. Brandon Little, 16, was listed in serious condition.

The three boys had gone into town and were returning to their campsite to join three other friends when the vehicle overturned near the campsite. They are all students at Emporia High School.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the accident, which occurred on a gravel road southwest of Olpe. As of Aug. 9, investigators were still not sure what caused the accident.

A Web site to document the other teenagers' progress was established at www.caringbridge.org (Click on "visit" and type in "greglongbine").
