John M. May

Funeral services for John M. May, 74, Eudora, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Eudora United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Eudora Cemetery.

Mr. May died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at his home.

He was born Oct. 11, 1931, in Nortonville, the son of John M. and Vera R. Stephens May. He graduated from Eudora High School.

Mr. May retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years. He served tours in France, Utah, Washington state, Turkey, Alabama, Vietnam, North Dakota, Taiwan and New Hampshire.

He worked for Douglas County, Hercules, FD Richardson and at the Robinson Gym at Kansas University.

Mr. May married Mary Ellen Schurr on Sept. 6, 1957, in Eudora. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Karrie Botello, Nederland, Texas; three brothers, Vernon May, Hiawatha, Charles M. May, Lawrence, Ralph "Bob" May, Groves, Texas; five sisters, Wilma Shepard, Eudora, Donna Courter, Oskaloosa, Ruth Nading, Marion, Iowa, Mildred Morris, Eudora, and Mera Mize, Oskaloosa; and four grandchildren.

A son, Kevin May, preceded him in death in 2003. Two sisters, Melba Jean May and Dorothy Courter also preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials to the Sadie May Educa-tional Fund. They may be sent in care of Kaw Valley Bank, P.O. Box 702, Eudora 66025, or in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary -- Eudora Chapel, 1003 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora 66025.
