Girls fall to .500 with loss at Silver Lake

Turnovers and poor shooting sabotaged a solid first quarter as the Eudora girls basketball team fell 45-35 Tuesday at Silver Lake. The Cardinals (2-2) managed to shoot just 32 percent from the field, with a combined 13 second-half turnovers that allowed the Eagles to keep a sizeable lead for most of the game.
Wrestlers improve in front of home crowd

Compared to the results from a year ago, the Cardinal wrestling team made a big improvement in front of the home crowd over the weekend as eight of 11 Cardinals placed in the 25-team Eudora Tournament of Champions.
Cardinal comeback falls just shortat Silver Lake

With a 37-32 deficit at halftime, things looked manageable for the Eudora Cardinals heading into the second half. But then Silver Lake’s Austin Abbott took off from the launching pad. Abbott drained four consecutive 3-pointers in the second half to help hand the Cardinals their first loss of the season, 68-65, Tuesday at Silver Lake.

I love this time of Advent, which is now in its third week. While we prepare to celebrate Christmas with the usual hustle and bustle, over-booked schedules and stressed-out moments — all the while wondering how to stretch our incomes to accommodate gifts — it is still a time of reflection and anticipation. And so I muse on this time to bring you these thoughts.

The majority of us have so much to be thankful for. Not to diminish the stresses and troubles that keep us awake, most nights we sleep in comfortable beds in a warm home with full stomachs. We are secure, and we have family to help us through hard times.

A Eudora Christmas tradition has changed hands. The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund is now known as the Eudora Lions Club Christmas Fund.
