With the start of a new year, people look with optimism for fresh starts and improvements. As a community, Eudora, too, can look to the new year with real optimism. It will be realized with the resolution of a number of issues in which the community as a whole will be involved.

Basketball starts again against Paola

At the start of 2006, the Eudora Cardinals girls basketball team will come out of a long winter break ready to build on the 2-2 start that ended 2005. A third-place finish at the Paola Invitational tournament was followed by a disappointing 45-35 loss at Silver Lake before the break. But that loss has started to ebb in the minds of the Cardinals as they head into the thick of their season.

Council authorizes Beatty to study sewer rate hike

In the next month, the Eudora City Council will hike monthly wastewater rates to address what was called an “inherited problem.” The problem is attributed to past inaction in passing on needed rate increases and the payments on a $5 million revolving loan the city took out from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment are coming due.
