Matthew T. Tolbert
Memorial services for Matthew T. Tolbert, 45, Lawrence, were Wednesday, June 15, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
Mr. Tolbert died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at his home in rural Lawrence.
He was born Sept. 15, 1959, in Topeka, the son of Farrel and Peggy Aaron Tolbert. He grew up in the Topeka area and was a 1977 graduate of Shawnee Heights High School. He attended Kaw Valley Vocational Technical College in Topeka.
Mr. Tolbert had worked for the City of Topeka Public Works Department since 1981, most recently in Facility Management as parking manager.
He was named Topeka City Employee of the Month in August 1996 and had received a Certificate of Recognition by then-Mayor Butch Felker in August 2002. He received his parking facilities manager certification by the National Parking Association in 2004.
He married Karen Renyer on April 7, 1990, in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Jeremiah Tolbert, Laramie, Wyo., and Nathaniel Tolbert, Lawrence; a daughter, Rhiannon "Annie" Hadl, Eudora; his mother; two brothers, Russell Tolbert and Keith Tolbert, both of Topeka; two sisters, Toni Cripps and Karen Rhoads, both of Topeka; his grandparents, Al and Bonnie Aaron, Carbondale; and a grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research, sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence.
