March 14, 2005

An incident on Kansas Highway 10 just west of Eudora is under investigation after shots were fired from a vehicle early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. Sunday near K-10 mile marker 9 between Eudora and Lawrence.

According to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle with five occupants from the Kansas City metro area was traveling east on K-10 when a second vehicle approached. Several shots were fired from the second vehicle, striking the driver's side of the first vehicle. One occupant suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken by helicopter to a Kansas City hospital. The injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

After the incident, the suspect vehicle reportedly exited the area eastbound as the victims of the shooting left the highway and called 911.

Identities of the victims were not released because of the nature of the crime, and the suspect or suspects were still at large, the news release said.

The only information available on the suspects' vehicle was that it was a dark-colored vehicle, possibly with Missouri plates. Further suspect information will be released as it is available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at 842-0007 or Lawrence/Douglas County Crimestoppers at 843-TIPS. Crimestoppers callers may remain anonymous.
