Pyle backs Miller for Council
Eudora Mayor Tom Pyle has narrowed the field to one candidate who he plans to nominate for a vacant City Council position.
Pyle has chosen Kevin Miller to fill a vacancy that was created when Pyle was elected to be mayor in the middle of a four-year term.
Pyle said he had discussed the appointment with the City Council, and he expected the Council to approve the appointment at a special meeting Thursday. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Eudora City Hall, 4 E. Seventh St.
Pyle said should the Council approve the appointment, Miller would be sworn in. The Council would then have an executive session to begin interviewing applicants for Eudora's city administrator position.
Miller has lived in Eudora for most of his life and is a graduate of Eudora High School. He works for Eudora Township as a road supervisor.
Miller said numerous people had urged him to run for a spot on the City Council, so he decided he would give it a try when Pyle approached him about the appointment.
Pyle said he chose Miller because of his experience working with the township and because he would fit in well with the other "young minds" on the Council.
"He understands this line of work," Pyle said. "I think he's going to be someone who's going to work for the city and work for the good of the people of Eudora."
