Graduation ceremony set for Sunday
The Eudora High School class of 2005 will finally walk the walk Sunday.
Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Eudora High School gymnasium. The school expects diplomas will be given to 82 graduating seniors.
The Eudora High School band will accompany the processional with a performance of Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance."
A slideshow will then be presented, featuring baby photos and senior photos of each of the graduates.
Eudora USD 491 Superintendent Marty Kobza will then introduce Patrick Everley, who will give a message to the graduates.
Everley is a 1997 graduate of Eudora High School. He attended Kansas University and graduated in 2001 with honors in biology. He is now attending Harvard Medical School, performing cancer research.
Everley's comments will be followed by two speeches by the valedictorians of the senior class.
Eudora High School choir members from the senior class will perform, "Stand by Me" by Lieber and Stoller, followed by "May Night" by Johannes Brahms, performed by the high school's combined choirs.
Eudora High School Principal Dale Sample will give the class certification before the presentation of diplomas.
Brenda Clark, Kenneth Massey and Joe Pyle from the Eudora USD 491 Board of Education will present diplomas to the graduating seniors.
After the recessional, the graduates will gather in the high school commons area for a reception.
Area clergy have also prepared a baccalaureate at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Eudora High School gymnasium before graduation ceremonies.
Several Eudora ministers and five students will participate in the program. Those students are Kevin Abel, Samantha Box, Tyler Hartpence, Derin Stewart and Cecilia Stumpff.
The song "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me will be performed by Serena McAlexander, Tabitha Welsh, Kara Pittman, Brittany Pittman and Sarah Welsh.
