The Eudora Cardinals were a team of extremes during a successful 8-4 season in 2004. The Cardinal offense racked up four games in the middle of the campaign in which they breached the 48-point mark. But on the flip side, the squad found itself struggling in games against De Soto, Baldwin and Topeka Hayden where they failed to score more than a touchdown.

After rain postponed the long-awaited rematch with Bishop-Seabury Academy, the Eudora Cardinals got their season underway with a Tuesday match-up against league foe Gardner Edgerton. The good news for the Cardinals came in the form of sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Barta, who had a monster game with 20 saves.

The lights will come to life Friday as the 2005 high school football season gets underway across the area. And in Eudora that means a gathering at Laws Field. The Eudora Cardinals welcome the Wellsville Eagles Friday, and the Eagles may be looking to return the favor delivered to them by the Cardinals last year’s season opener.

There’s need for all to respond to hurricane relief

Right now, large parts of the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are basically broken. It is the worst natural disaster to visit the United States since the San Francisco earthquake of 1904 or the hurricane that slammed into an unprotected Galveston, Texas, four years earlier, claiming more than 6,000 lives.

The ugly debacle that unfolded in the lobby of Salina’s Bicentennial center took place nearly 10 months ago. Finally the Eudora volleyball team took its biggest step yet in putting the controversy that forced them out of the Class 4A state playoffs behind it. It started a new season, seemingly with a chip on the shoulder.
