Light the Night
Registration is now open for Lawrence's third annual Light the Night Walk.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual event will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 in South Park, downtown Lawrence. The walk begins at 7:30 p.m.
Participants will carry illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer.
Last year, more than $30,000 was raised in the Lawrence area community. Funds raised support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families, both locally and nationally.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m., participants will be treated to a carnival-like atmosphere complete with food, games and music. A silent auction to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will also take place.
At 7:30 p.m., walkers will light the evening sky with illuminated balloons, white for cancer survivors and red for supporters. Each participant raising a minimum of $25 will carry a balloon during the two-mile stroll through South Park.
The event will commence with a fireworks display.
