Volleyball quick to get back on winning track

It quickly cooled off outside, the chants from Eudora’s students filled an opponent’s gym and the opponents themselves were left walking back to the locker room with long faces and quizzical looks. It must be volleyball season again. The Eudora volleyball team has made a habit of starting off its seasons with resounding wins and Tuesday’s season opening tournament was no exception.
Cards hoping for the best in first ‘06 race

The Eudora High School cross country team has some pretty high expectations to fulfill. The Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association released its annual preseason rankings, and coaches across the state appear to think highly of the Cardinals.

One down, eight to go.” That’s what the Eudora varsity soccer team yelled after it crushed Seabury Academy 9-2 Friday night. That win, plus a 0-0 tie Tuesday with Gardner Edgerton, has the Cards on the right track toward realizing their goal of finishing the season at .500 or better.

Osawatomie to offer tough first test for Cardinals

It was one of those nail-biting games where the outcome literally was decided with seconds left on the clock. Although close, things seemed to be going in favor for the Eudora High School football team Sept. 9, 2005, against Osawatomie. Eudora was clinging to an 18-16 lead with three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but had just five yards to go to reach the end zone and a victory-ensuring touchdown. Then it happened.
EHS ACT results mixed

Although the composite ACT test scores for Eudora USD 491 fell below the state average, district officials believe they’re heading in the right direction. Juniors who took the test last year surpassed both the state and national averages.

Until receiving a recommendation from her middle school counselor, Eudora High School freshman Katherine Slavin never thought she’d be in the running for a tiara. Likewise, the concept of walking up and down a stage in evening wear never really seemed likely.
USD 491 to study moving up bond issue

Before the Eudora USD 491 Board of Education takes its next step en route to an upcoming bond issue, it must first decide two things: timing and scope. Both topics will be covered during a special board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Learning Center, 10th and Main streets.

Eudora Fire Chief Randy Ates credited his brother –- a paid public safety officer in central Arkansas –- for pointing him toward his eventual career. “I watched him, and the fun he seemed to be having with that lured me to it,” Ates said.
