Clifford V. Steffen

Graveside services with military honors for Clifford V. Steffen, 87, Ottawa, were Saturday, Aug. 26, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley.

Mr. Steffen died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006.

He was born June 5, 1919, in Haviland, the son of John and Gertie Steffen. He grew up in Clearfield and Eudora.

Mr. Steffen served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He started his own plumbing business in Olathe and was a master plumber. He and his wife later moved to Baldwin City, where they lived for 35 years before moving to Ottawa.

He was a past commander of American Legion Post No. 153 in Olathe.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Steffen, of the home; and a brother, Richard Steffen.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Roney.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society for lung cancer research, sent in care of the McGilley and Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula, Olathe 66061.
