St. Paul United Church of Christ will have a Longest Night of the Year service at 7 p.m. Dec. 21, which is the winter solstice. The service is at the church, Eighth and Church streets.
The Longest Night of the Year service is an opportunity to acknowledge the less-than-merry feelings that can accompany the Christmas season.
The holiday season is not always festive and bright for people who are living with illness, depression or grief, said the Rev. Lisa Gardner. Sometimes just the frantic pace and pressure of Christmas can cause all of us to feel lost and alone.
St. Paul United Church of Christ provides a quiet, safe place to acknowledge disappointments, fears and grief in the midst of God's hope, she said.
The service is open to the community.
